  5. Religious Police not always superheroes but I still love the idea. The egg here,in such situation,resembles the woman coz she’s so fragile. Especially here in our country. Also, she follows strict rules in our religion as u all know. So, let’s look at the positive side of this vid. It’s creative :)

  6. Well to be more precise they refer to the egg as girl’ chastity ‘if that is the equivalent meaning in English’ and not girls. It is still the same, though. But this makes Female symphony’s theory does not hold anymore and thus there is no positive side in this video whatsoever :).
    But they forgot to attach a beard in the pillow

  9. I don’t understand this commercial as I don’t understand a police is needed to prevent virtue or in this case, a girl’s chastity. The way to preserve it or not is through education and one’s will.

  11. Hmmm. I actually think this is fabulous (without knowledge of the written content). It is very well produced, and visually attractive, with both contemporary (camera phone as the penetrating intrusive phallus) and tradition symbolism (flower the universal sign of virginity; eggs universal representation of women; religion cushioning the woes of society). I understand its meaning to be an advert for the muttawa, showing that they protect virtuous women from blackmail by unscrupulous “suitors” (the camera phone “dies” or absents itself from any real relationship with the woman) using photos of them for extortion. This would seem to be a valid task for a police force, or a vice squad, though not a total justification imho for the Religious Police as currently constituted in Saudi.

    However, I couldn’t understand the writing, except as an advert for the Haya, and have spent A LOT of time analysing literature, so I am happy to be deprogrammed by better informed Saudis if necessary! LOL :)

  15. The Religious Police has become much more important than ever before. In today’s times, Saudi girls and woman can’t walk safely without getting attention of the Saudi youth who are just dying to mingle with them.

    We can only disagree with the way they do things, but not with what they do.

    • Don’t you think that if situations like that are occurring the need is to change the behavior and create accountability for actions – in this case males?

      Citizens are able to police themselves when it comes to virginity or innocence, if you will.

      If women are brought up with the mentality that they are strong enough to take care of their own virtue and men are raised to see women as their equals and partners, there would be no need for policing of morals.

    and the egg in Arabic is not like in English, the winner (the director of this video) said: it’s taken from the Holey Quraan (Baydhon Maknoon)=(un-touched eggs).

    • Waleed–So it’s a commercial in praise of the religious police but not by them?

      The egg is a universal symbol of women, fertility, and fragility. I understand the phrase baydoun maknoon in the Holy Qur’an to be more abstract, and refer to the Qur’an itself. Please correct me if I am wrong.

  20. Well, I can’t say that I’m surprised, really, but it’s still amazing… just how weak they think women are, and how vulnerable to men.

    This goes hand-in-hand with the whole ‘women must be protected because men can’t be trusted’ idea… which makes absolutely no sense to me. Why not make men more responsible, instead?

    الجهة الصحيحة هي ان النساء لم يعدن جواهر بعد الان لأن أمثالكم يامن لا تريدون العفاف للفتاة قد سلبوا الفتاة عفتها وذهبوا يدعون ويطالبون الحرية للمرأة .. وهذا واقع مرير للأسف ولن ستطيع أحد أن ينكره ..

    الجهة الخاطئة وهي أن المرأة لما شبهت في الاعلان هذا انها كالبيضة .. فهذا التشبيه ليس من خيال من صنع الاعلان .. هذا تشبيه الخالق سبحانه وتعالى .. واعتقد انه لم يمر عليك هذا الوصف البليغ في تشبيه المرأة بالبيض المكنون .. لأنك يبدوا من حكمك المستعجل على الامور .. انك لم تقرأ القرآن يوما وتتفكر فيه .. وارجع لسورة الصافات حتى تعرف انه هذا التشبيه هو من قوله تعالى ( كأنهن بيض مكنون )
    فاتق الله يامن اعترضت وتكهمت على هذا التشبيه وبانه سخيف .. او غير ذلك .. فالله تعالى سيحاسبك على كل شي تقوله او تسيئ الى دينه واهل دينه ..

    ارجع الى ربك وخف من انتقام العزيز الجبار ..

  23. If the religious police are supposed to “protect” the women of this society, why do they smack them on the ankles with a big stick? Their approach is all wrong. There is a nice way of asking people to do things, to cooperate, and from what I’ve seen, many of the religious police here are just thugs wanting to hurt and bully women, not to protect them.

    عن قتادة رضي الله عنه في قوله تعالى: ‏{‏وعندهم قاصرات الطرف‏}‏ قال‏:‏ قصرن طرفهن على أزواجهن‏.‏ فلا يردن غيرهم ‏{‏كأنهن بيض مكنون‏}‏ قال‏:‏ البيض الذي لم تلوثه الأيدي‏.‏

    ومن هنا يحق لنا تشبيه المرآة بالبيض لأنه الله هو الذي قام بالتشبيه

  25. I believe that this video is very well and very creatively produced.

    It demonstrates a pleasant command of aesthetic values.

    Yet, it misleads.

    Certainly, it would be commendable if the police are available to those who are to imminently face harm.

    However, the reality is that adult women are not assisted when facing harm.

    Rather, the clerical establishment (perhaps like a pillow) too often seeks to smother women.

    A women who is an adult should be viewed by the government as a adult, and not as a child needing to be protected from her own judgments.

    We can and must do better.

    think if i was a girl talking on the phone with mr.x
    and then X did something harmful to me. would i go to the religious police?? what would they do? maybe ill be facing capital punishment or inhuman corporal punishment!!

    انا شخصيا انتقد التصميم لانه لهدف سامي اكشف عيوب التصميم ليتمكن المصمم من اداء عمل ثاني يخدم دينه بشكل افضل
