  1. Was there any fanfare? As in, a driveby of sorts where people could wave? When I was about 10 (living in the Netherlands), the Crown Princess Beatrix (now Queen, isn’t it nice to have females ‘rule’? Her mother and her grandmother both did too, except it was a seperation of royalty and political structure..it’s possible!) anyhow..the Crown Princess and her husband was visiting my little hometown and many many people were lined up next to the road she was supposed to come down. It was close to our school during the day so our school with the teachers all went out. I was pretty excited and at the last moment, darted in front of the cars coming to the other side thinking that perhaps the Princess was going to sit on that side of the car. NOT! It was her husband and I was kinda disappointed. The Dutch like their royals, but most of them like them as long as they don’t act to high and mighty. When Holland was struck by a large North Sea storm in the ’50s, Queen Wilhelmina was one of the first officials (!) on the scene where so many houses and properties has flooded. With her wintercoat and galoshes. The politicians caught flack for being late on the scene and the Queen won many hearts by coming down when , morale-wise, it was needed.
