Donuts and Pretzels

It was Dotsson who first reported that Krispy Kreme has finally arrived to Saudi Arabia, and now Mochness has the first review after getting a chance to try their donuts before the grand opening which is expected on the first day of Eid al Fitr. I had my first Krispy Kreme donut on my last night in Washington DC. We were like: “we ain’t leave DC without eating them!” But the thing that I really wanted to try while I was in the States was pretzels. Sara Dickerman in Slate says she is surprised by how little respect pretzels get in the snack-food world. I had a chance to try pretzels in New York and I have a picture to prove it! Now I need to know if there is a place in Riyadh that makes good pretzels.

  1. Come on, Ahmed, it is not “families only”: I have lunch there very often when I am in Riyadh. It is true that in the evenings it is mostly families, but I never had any problem to enter there (and believe me, I look like an Arab), even when mutawwas where inside.

And I agree with Simon Columbus, actually pretzels are German, isn’t it?

  2. We have those donuts in Australia..my g/f is mad on them, though we can only get them in the cities…She brings home a box each time she goes to sydney…we dont have pretzels though..lol

  3. Well…were there four male or eight female witnesses who saw him eat the pretzel? And isn’t there an exemption from fasting for those who are travelling?

  7. So guys yes Pretzels originated in Germany they were brought to US by immigrants to the new world. I think from the looks of it you bought a hard pretzel on the street you must try a soft hand rolled pretzel. Now can any one tell me is there a pretzel store in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia…please let me know to my knowledge there was a store named Different Twist there i need to verify …please let me know i am traveling in 2 weeks..
