Update on the Taxi post: I went to Al-Tahlia Street last weekend, and it was a shitty experience. That street can be nice in other times, but it is highly not recommended on weekends. The street was so crowded with boys, and the cars were moving so slowly that I thought I was going to commit a crime or something. The whole atmosphere of that street was filled with testosterone. Finally, here is a special advice to all girls, and also to boys who would like to maintain some mental health: Do not even think about crossing that street on weekend evenings.

I lived in Riyahd in the late 90’s teaching while teaching English to young girls, I will say that of all the hair raising situations I faced, the experience of trying to get somewhere in a taxi was the most terrifying of all. I could never figure out what was worse – the clueless (& themselves terrified) taxi drivers or the crazy drivers; esp the 10-12 yr old boys at the helm of huge cars ferrrying flocks of blinded (appropriately covered) women) or just on a joyride with their buddies.
Great blog btw –
Sorry about the typos – too much typing on the fly!
