Last night, Raja al-Sanie’, author of the controve…

Last night, Raja al-Sanie’, author of the controversial novel Banat al-Riaydh (The Girls of Riyadh), was interviewed by Turki al-Dakheel on AlArabiya TV. A rerun of the interview will be aired today at 1100 GMT. I’m still in the middle of the novel. I’ll write about it when I finish it.

  1. I was in Bahrain and tried to get hold of the novel but couldnt :*( I was told its out of stock ..

    How good is it?

  2. For someone used to read good books, this novel is nice. Not good, but nice. Probably, it is more interesting for those older than it is for a twenty-something like me, because most of my generation already know how relationships between boys and girls in Saudi Arabia are run, and so far, the novel has carried no surprises to me. I thought I would be more wow’ed, but I guess I was wrong. I will write an extensive review of the book (in Arabic) soon.

  3. Sallam aleykum.

  4. Joan,
In Europe, I think you can get it from the book publisher Al Saqi Books in London. Here’s their email address: alsaqi at cyberia.net.lb.

  5. What is the purpose of this book ? To warn others? A message to the west that we are not less than you? To encourage individuals that nothing is wrong in doing? An invitation to the religious scholars to rehabiltate?
A true Muslim will not expose the wrong doings of his/her fellow Muslim to others but will hide it and strive hard to correct him/her. As the Hadees goes: ONE WHO VEILS A MOMIN ALMIGHTY ALLAH WILL VEIL HIM IN THIS WORLD & THE HEREAFTER.
How much time & money was spent on this book? If the same was utilized in correcting the so called Muslims would it not have been better?
