  1. I doubt anyone working on starbucks in the gulf would know somnethhing about this ..

tell us if ever tried it :)

  2. Starbucks has one fair trade certified coffee, it is called: ESTIMA BLEND.
If the store you are visiting is not brewing fair trade coffee at the time of your visit you can request a “french-press” just for you…the baristas are supposed to do that for you.
But what is the point of requesting a Fair-Trade french press of Fair Trade coffee for no reason but to drink Fair Trade and piss off simple employees who are just trying to go thru their day? Why don’t these people simply donate to NGO that help farmers? Or just buy Fair Trade coffee beans which coast about 11 US $/lb(Estima Blend)? The movement is not going anywhere and Starbucks brews fair trade coffee one week per month anyway!

  3. Hey asamaoverseas — I too kinda feel bad for making the baristas do more work — We’ve had a pretty healthy discussion about that with the challengers. But we’re hoping that once Starbucks realizes that the demand for fair trade coffee is out there, they’ll brew it more often and buy more of it. As you know, Starbucks is huge — So if they even raised their fair trade purchases by like 1%, that’s millions more pounds of coffee sold at fair trade prices :)

And actually — the Starbucks policy that used to have stores brew fair trade coffee once a month has been phased out, according to Starbucks’ CSR department.

  4. the response i got at starbucks in sharjah:

“fair trade? what’s that?” he said.

I explained to him what it is.

“no, i dont know what you are talking about. let me get my manager.”

    I left.

  5. Wow — This is so cool. I’m still not sure whether to be awed or frightened that we have such similar experiences, whether in Los Angeles or in Saudi Arabia —
