Fresh Air

When asked why she is demanding the right for women to drive, the Saudi writer Nadine al-Bedair said, “I want to breathe some fresh air without a company. Isn’t it one of my basic rights as a human being?” What else is she looking for in the new era? She is looking for some kind of a constitutional change, even though she is not making that so clear in her column. Also, she is looking forward for a parliament where she can choose who to represent her, and gives women the chance to participate in the process of reform. I think most of us share the same dreams with al-Bedair. We want all of this, we want more, and we have high hopes in the new king.
