Lack of Posts, Explained

You may have noticed that I was blogging less than usual during the past week. Last week was busy and hectic. I had to go to Dammam twice on Saturday and Thursday, and spent the days between in the court in order to finish some paper work regarding my uncle’s will. I thought this paper work would take only like few hours, but surprisingly, it took us three days and I still have to go to the court again to finish it. Honestly, during past week, I saw the Saudi bureaucracy at its best. I got the impression that these over-paid pencil pushers were enjoying making us suffer and run in the dirty hallways of the court like thirsty dogs.

Above are two pictures I’ve taken at the court building. The one on the left is for the office door of Sheikh Mohammed al-Majed, one of the 118 who signed the statement against women’s driving. I really wanted to knock that door, go inside, and ask him one simple question: “What’s your problem?” But I didn’t, because I heard that he has the power to jail me for a month for no reason at all, and without any kind of investigation.

The picture on the left is a warning sign that you will see everywhere in the court building. The sign reads: “Please, do not use musical ringtones inside the office.” At the bottom of that sign, there were a few words handwritten with a blue pen: “Because music is forbidden (Haram)” (نظرا لحرمة الموسيقى). It’s good that someone took a few seconds of his time to explain that to us!
