Husein Shubukshi wrote about the three different opinions of three members of the Saudi royal family regarding the issue of women’s driving, and he seemed to be happy about that because he thinks it reflects the diversity in the Saudi society. Before reading Shubukshi’s column, I had read two of the three opinions.
Today, I read the third one. It was written by Prince Mamdouh Bin Abdul Aziz, and he is against the right of women to drive. I respect all opinions, and I’m sure a part of the society would agree with Prince Mamdouh’s point of view. However, I was surprised by the level of discussion between Prince Mamdouh and a Saudi journalist who disagreed with him. The reply of the prince included a personal attack, and calling names!
