One thought on “NY Times: Ringtone composers get serious.”
Several years ago, I read an article about ringtones in the International Herald Tribune while performing concerts in Germany. The UK company, http://www.mobiletones.com, was doing a great deal for ringtones, and I contacted them, met with their director while he was visiting in New York, and I thus created over 400 classical ringtones for them. With a cellphone and a keyboard, I created these tones, which is perhaps the most comprehensive list of ringtones of repertoire from the Baroque through 2000. The idea was to make the cellphone sound like its own musical instrument, with appropriate spacings and rhythms of notes. If one visits their web site, they can sample the tones, although they are not polyphonic, as that was not yet in fashion. Jeffrey Biegel
