Hi,
If I walk around Jeddah smiling at people, the girls are going to think I am asking them for a date, the guys are going to think I am weird, the mutawas are going to think I am teasing the girls, and others are going to wonder why I am smiling all the time! Sure, I agree with you that we definitely need more smiling around here…I wish it were as easy it is to smile in Jeddah as it is in London. Believe me, I smile at people, and more times than often they look at me as if I dropped from another planet! =)

It soo sad how smiling is automatically somehow attached to promiscuity in saudi arabia. Didn’t any one hear Smiling is sunnnah? Have we forgotten that the Prophet pbuh always used to smile…. smile its sunnah! :) :)
Mansur, Nadia, I agree with you guys to some extent. However, smiling isn’t that frowned upon here, trust me. The only setback would be trying to smile behind a niqab sheesh! lol
