I am glad this maid got to tell her story. As far as if she is innocent or not, I don’t know. But this issue is a big deal and needs to be dealt with. I wonder if there are other maids, who are being genuinely abused, out there who may never tell their stories.
Mansur
the maid claims that the wife beat her up cuz she ain’t wear no underwear. don’t ya think thats fishy? i think it is! why was she even walking around with no underwear in the first place? i think the maid’s guilty!
That’s right anonymous, blame the victim. It is obvious that the maid was grossly abused and neglected by her employers. Nothing on her part justifies that.
Saudi has engaged in the type of behavior that you display here for years. Denying responsibility, blaming the victim, and generating gross hypocrisy and malfeasance.
Where is your Islam, man? You don’t even publish your name. You are a moral coward. I applaud the Saudi government though, for investigating and publishing info about this episode. They are doing the right thing.

Greetings from Denmark, dear friends – I also have roots in Ethiopia. Former Ethiopian maids tell similar stories, not all Arab employers are bad, of course, but perhaps 50% make the maid work extremely long hours and deny her any free time, and 5-10% of employers are outright criminals, who might take their maid as slave, even beat and rape her.
This is happening to thousands of our women, Christian as well as Muslim, in all the Golf states, even in Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Sudan. Something needs to be done to change mentalities, starting with harsh punishment of wrong-doers for these extreme offences, not just this ridiculous fine, but long prison terms and fair compensation. But you also should all become more aware of the welfare of your foreign maids, their rights to spare time and to a life other than as servants, and their right to be treated with dignity and respect, not be yelled at or taken for granted.
Those Saudis who behave like they “own” their maids are giving your whole country a really bad reputation. I know this is unfair, so please, do something about it.
PS: If YOU want to be “the perfect employer”, then start by offering to send your foreign maid three times a week on an Arab language course to learn to read, write and speak Arabic. This will help make her life so much better, and her future as well.
