By the River Piedra, I Sat Down and Wept

I enjoyed this novel by the author of the best-seller Alchemist. In this novel, Paulo Coelho tells us the story of a young coverwoman who leaves her town to explore the world with a childhood friend, and to solve her inner conflicts. During the journey, Pillar finds answers to the big questions of life, love and beliefs.

As a Muslim, I did not quite understand the religious side of the story. However, the other aspects of the story related to relationships were much more meaningful to me.

  1. Hey,

I read this book after I read Veronika Decides to Die by the same author. I loved the Alchemist the best. The By the river Piedra… is also a great read purely for the relationship issues discussed. Try reading One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

  2. -Paulo Coelho Rules-
His way of writing is extremely impressive. I read The Alchemist and am planning to read Zaheer.
