Jimbo Wales, creator of the Wikipedia project, says, “[t]he second thing that will be free is a complete curriculum (in all languages) from Kindergarten through the University level.” This is interesting. Health-related college students, like me, have to pay for expensive textbooks they hardly can afford. I think this is simply great.

Walt Mossberg does not like Apple’s new Mighty Mouse, and thinks that Microsoft has beaten Apple on hardware design, “at least in this one case.” For me, this is not the only case. I have been using this Starck Mouse by Microsoft for sometime now, and I do really like it. This mouse, just like Apple’s Mighty Mouse, has no visible buttons. The entire top surface at every side operates as a giant button. But it works great, and it looks cool.
Upcoming Events
As I’m not studying this summer, and not traveling, I thought I would have plenty of time to attend cultural events. The main two problems were that there is not much going on in the summer where I live, and there is not much information available about the ongoing and upcoming events.
For example, the Society of Culture and Arts in Hassa have held an exhibition for local photographers last month. However, I missed it because I only read about it in the papers days after it was closed.
Forget about Hassa. It is a little town, and the available events around the year are limited. Take a look at Riyadh, where several activities and events take place around the year, but no one knows anything about them. I have missed several important events at the university I study at just because they were not promoted properly. (Another reason is the stupid scheduling of lectures in my courses.)
I think a good solution to this problem is to have a single place, where one can find information on all the available events. And because I’m pretty sure no one is willing to take this suggestion seriously, I have decided to do it myself. I have googled the available options on the web, and found Upcoming.org to be a good solution.
Upcoming.org is a web-based application for creating, managing, and sharing event calendars. It can help you discover interesting events in your area, and track down what events your friends are attending. I started a page for Saudi Arabia on the website, and added three province and several cities.
As soon as I find out about any event, I will add it to the calendar. However, this won’t work out if I was the only one. You all living in Saudi Arabia, and interested in such thing, should sign up and start adding events and venues to make it useful. If you don’t feel like doing so, or you have a language problem, please send me an email about the event and I will add it myself.

Abdul Rahman al-Rashed thanks the women who signed the petition that demands women to stay at house, and not to go out for work or driving cars, and maybe not to study at schools at all! He thinks that those women have made it clear that they are such minority ready to protest against women rights. Because, in opposite to these 500 women, there are tens of thousands of college graduate girls, waiting for their turn to enter the jobs market.
