Doing Business in Saudi Arabia is Easier

The World Bank has recognized Saudi Arabia as one of the top reformers in its most recent ‘Ease of Doing Business‘ report, ranking it at 23rd position jumping from its 38th last year, and making it the best place to do business in the entire Middle East. “Saudi Arabia eliminated layers of bureaucracy that had previously made it one of toughest places in the world to start a business,” the report said.

Great work by Amr Al Dabbagh and the people at SAGIA. I have to admit that I was very skeptic when I first heard him talking about making the Kingdom one of the top 10 most competitive countries in the world by 2010, but now it is obvious we are on the right track here.

Congratulations to all the people who worked on this. Keep up the good work!

It is an absolute must for the KSA to get its act together, especially if it wants to compete with Dubai. In becoming more appealing to outside businesses will only help the KSA draw more interest in its King Abdullah Economic City, which will need a lot of capital interest and investment. It would be wonderful to see the KSA outshine Dubai and to have it become “THE” financial hub of the Middle East.

I wouldn’t get too excited about that report. I find it hard to believe, especially when foreign businessmen are still reporting difficulties in getting visas to enter the Kingdom.

The women’s circus in Riyadh was canceled this Eid supposedly because visas were not issued in time for them to get here on time.

    Ahmed,

The report is talking about reforms and improving countries positions and the number 23 we got is not among all countries but among those countries who were not really doing well in opening up for international business. Also, how come KSA is number 1 in the Middle East while Egypt is clearly before us!.
